As we lead up to Sanctity of Life Sunday, January 19, 2014, let us think about the millions of lives that have been murdered since the Roe vs. Wade decision. It’s a barbaric practice…there’s nothing civilized about abortion.
Sanctity of Life has special meaning to me. In February 1999, my husband and I heard the unthinkable suggestion of abortion after learning that our unborn baby had Anencephaly, a neural tube defect that leads to certain death. We didn’t need to think about it. Through my tears I told the attending doctor, “No!” I continued by informing him that we believe God is the Author and Taker of life. It wasn’t our decision to make to choose death.
Choosing life that day wasn’t a choice, but God’s mandate. He created our baby and He most certainly knew what He was doing. How could we go against His Sovereignty? We couldn’t!
Through many, many tears, and yes, numerous questions, we finally met our daughter, Abigail Grace, on August 3, 1999. We loved her in our arms for nearly 24 hours. Her first and only night away from my protective womb was in her daddy’s protective arms. Billy cradled her that night and held his second daughter close. It warmed my heart to see them together.
However, we knew that her birth would also mean that we would have to say goodbye a lot sooner than we wanted. On August 4 she left my arms for the arms of Jesus. I’m so thankful for our little precious baby Abigail, but what The Lord did in my life because of the gift of her life is something I’ll treasure always.
Abigail was a gift of His love! I would have missed that!
