Casting away, what exactly does that mean? Casting away means putting something behind you like a burden, a fear, or anything that is holding you back from doing what you were made to do. Whatever it is that needs to be cast away from you can and will be the biggest barrier to fulfilling your God-given dreams.
Within each and every one of us is this innate sense of knowing that there is something that you were made to do, but the fear of the unknown, a lack of confidence, or simply our own selves can block us from ever obtaining that one thing that we were made to be.
There are the questions that well up inside to the point of exhausting confusion, but cast that off too. Confusion’s source is the Deceiver. He wants to accuse us and make certain that we focus on our faults instead of focusing on the light of Christ. If he can get us to take our eyes off Christ and get them onto our selves or others then he has us where he wants us to be–useless. In 1 Peter 5:8 Peter tells us to be sober and vigilant. Why? Because the Deceiver of Old wants to stand as our accuser and attack us only to destroy our walk with God. But, did you know that if you are part of the Body of Christ you have been covered by the Blood of the Lamb and you have the authority to stand in faith against him. He doesn’t have to devour us, we can stand up and resist him (v.9). It is the power of Christ, the Living and Resurrected Lord of the Universe, whose Spirit dwells inside of every Believer that gives us the power to stand firm in our faith and resist him who seeks to destroy.
When we humble ourselves before the Lord, meaning when we admit that we can and are nothing apart from Christ, then that is when God can use us. We can cast all our cares on Him (1 Pet.5:7). Why? Because he cares for us. The Cross is the perfect example of how much He cares for us.
Casting away is a daily process! The more and more that we strive to live like Christ the bigger the bullseye we place on ourselves. The Deceiver would like nothing better than for followers of Christ to give up, but we must not. It is because of this….greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world 1 John 4:4(KJV). Because He is in us shouldn’t that be the greatest encouragement to us that we can indeed overcome and cast away every worry we tend to place on ourselves.
So go do some casting away! Be strong and be of good courage because the Spirit of the Incorruptible God lives in you.*
